The Clear Water Environmental Art project is an exciting new effort within West Baltimore’s Watershed 263 to combine sustainable landscape design with community art installations to raise awareness about local and global environmental challenges. Don’t forget to join us this Tuesday, July 19 for the CGRN Plant Giveaway Day at the Mount Clare Community Garden! UpdateThe CGRN Plant Giveaway Day has been rescheduled due to predicted thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. We have rescheduled this event for Tuesday, August 23. This is just one of many great greening programs coming up with the Franklin Square Blank Lot Planting Day and the Clear Water Environmental Community Art Conference both on Saturday, August 6.

Come on by the Mt. Clare Community Garden on Tuesday, July 19 Tuesday, August 23 for a plant Give-Away Day with the Parks & People Foundation’s Community Greening Resource Network. Pick up free plants, seeds, buckets, and as much composted manure as you could ask for thanks to the Carlton Street Arabbers Stable. This giveaway day is for CGRN members only but gardeners are welcome to sign-up for membership on site. Membership is a bargain at only $10 a year for community gardeners, $15 for gardeners with private/family gardens. Parks & People offering the $10 CGRN membership price to all West Baltimore gardeners next Tuesday only, so please join us and take advantage of their generous offer!

Franklin Square Blank Lot Project Planting Day

Saturday, August 6, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm

Join the Franklin Square Community Association for a planting day to place wood chips on the pathway, planting the third crop of sunflowers and celebrate the completion of the first phase of the project. The day’s work will be followed by a discussion on the next phase of the project and a cookout.

The Blank Lot Project is just one of many community gardens in West Baltimore neighborhoods and we’re looking to share their stories! Follow the Friends of West Baltimore Squares website and connect with us on Facebook to discover more with upcoming stories on the “Gardens of Hope” in the Upton neighborhood and a new effort to establish a community garden at West Fayette Street & North Carrollton Avenue.

Clear Water Environmental Art Conference

The Parks & People Foundation and Art for a Greener Environment invite you to submit your design for a community art installations for eight locations in West Baltimore neighborhoods. Join us on August 6 for a guest lecture of the problems facing water quality in urban environments and lunch followed by a tour of the project sites. Artists interested in submitting a proposal must attend this conference for consideration. A stipend will be awarded to the artists and landscape designers responsible for each selected proposal.
