Hollins Market combines art and environmental education with the Storm Drain Mural Project

This past fall, residents in Hollins Market area working together with Southwest Cares and support from Blue Water Baltimore painted a wonderful set of stormdrain mural paintings in the streets around the market shed. These murals offer gentle and friendly nudge to encourage everyone to think about how they can help improve the health of the bay and the look of the community by keeping the streets clean of trash. Don’t forget that this Wednesday, August 24 and next Wednesday, August 31 are the two upcoming 9th District City Council Candidate Forums. Today is also the deadline to register to vote in the September 13 primary in Baltimore. CGRN Plant Giveaway Day with the Friends of West Baltimore Squares

Mount Clare Community Garden, West Lombard Street & Mt. Clare Street
Tuesday August 23, 2011 — Tonight! 5:00pm to 7:00pm

Join the Community Greening Resource Network (CGRN) this evening for a Plant Give-Away Day at the Mt. Clare Community Garden. Stop by to pick up compost donated by the Carlton Street Arabbers Stable. Don’t forget to bring your own buckets for the compost, although you’re welcome to bring a truck if you can use a bit more. CGRN will also have fifty assorted trees donated by Blue Water Baltimore including varieties such as Red Maple, Sweet Birch, Gray Dogwood, Southern Crab Apple, Blackgum, Sycamore, Northern Road Oak and American Linden.
This giveaway day is for CGRN members only but gardeners are welcome to sign-up for membership on site. Membership is a bargain at only $10 a year for community gardeners, $15 for gardeners with private/family gardens. Parks & People is offering the $10 CGRN membership price to all West Baltimore gardeners next Tuesday only, so please join us and take advantage of their generous offer!
