Despite the unusually rainy weather hitting Baltimore this summer, the Friends of West Baltimore Squares ‘Film Friday’ series has been a total success- and it’s only just begun! After having to push our West Baltimore Squares Spring Celebration Kick-off Parade and first FILM FRIDAY” back a week due to rain, April decided to stay true to “April showers” and we ultimately had to move the first Film Friday inside. Luckily, our friends over at the Franklin Square Boys and Girls Club agreed to host us in their gym. The Boys and Girls Club after-school club, the Torch Club, which focuses on social justice issues, assisted us in carrying the outdoor movie equipment up the stairs to the gym. The Baltimore Energy Challenge (BEC) will be in attendance at upcoming Franklin Square Neighborhood Association meetings to help educate community members on easy ways to reduce their energy consumption and lower their BGE bills. BEC was established under the Baltimore Office for Sustainability and is a non-profit under the umbrella of Civic Works. BEC is hoping to be working in Franklin Square Elementary/Middle School in the coming months to help educate the students on energy conservation and sustainability.
