For more than a century, the United States Red Cross has been devoted to improving the quality of life, increasing self-sufficiency and fostering concern for others, and helping people prevent, prepare for, and manage emergencies. Established in 1905, the Central Maryland Chapter has had a profound impact on thousands of lives every day. Our mission remains to prevent and alleviate human suffering in all that we do. Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland is proud to have been honored with the Magnet accreditation from the American Meals on Wheels Association for its excellence and responsibility in home meal programs.
This organization was founded in 1853 and serves more than 300,000 members in the city of Baltimore and Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford and Howard counties. The Central Maryland Transportation Alliance (CMTA) is a coalition of businesses, civic groups, and non-profits from the Baltimore area that aims to improve transportation within Central Maryland. This region consists of the city of Baltimore and the surrounding jurisdictions of Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford and Howard Counties. The CMTA's objectives are to reduce traffic congestion, limit expansion, create job opportunities, and make it easier, faster and more efficient for anyone to travel within central Maryland.
To this end, they have hired Reconnecting America - a national transportation and community development organization - to identify the opportunities and challenges of TOD in central Maryland as a means of promoting TOD initiatives in the region. The Central Maryland chapter is proud to offer emergency disaster relief services to members of the Armed Forces, blood services, and health and safety programs for all ages. It was one of the first agencies to meet the standards of excellence set by the Maryland Association of Nonprofit Organizations in 1999.The CMTA also seeks to act as a convener for various interest groups in the region; as an advisor to municipal, county, state and federal government officials; and as a coordinator of short- and long-term initiatives to improve transportation in central Maryland. Today, Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland is one of the oldest non-profit meal delivery programs in the country.
It serves more than 1.3 million meals a year to nearly 3,000 customers.
